Legal aspects

when using donor material.

  • No legal obligations: A donor has no obligations whatsoever towards the child. This means that he or she is not responsible for matters such as child maintenance or parental authority.
  • Registration of hereditary conditions: If a donor later develops a hereditary disease, he or she is obliged to report this.
  • Destroying their own stock: A donor can decide to have their own stock of sperm or eggs destroyed, but this does not apply to embryos that have already been created.
  • Information about pregnancies: A donor may ask whether any pregnancies have resulted from their donations, but receives no further information about the intended parents or the child
  • No legal parenthood: A donor can never obtain recognition of or authority over the child through the courts.
